Polymer Anionic-cationic Flocculant

Apa itu Anionic flocculant?
Polimer Anionik Flocculant. Bahan kimia yang dipakai pada proses pengendapan lambat atau yang biasa di sebut proses flokulasi yang bertujuan utk memperbesar flok dan mempercepat proses pengendapan koloid.

Apa itu flokulan Anionik?
Flokulan polimer anionik menyebabkan partikel-partikel kecil saling menyatu .

A "flocculant anionic polyacrylamide PAM" refers to a type of water-soluble polymer, specifically polyacrylamide (PAM), with a negative charge (anionic) that is primarily used as a flocculant in various industrial applications, particularly in water treatment processes to clump together suspended particles and facilitate their settling out of the liquid.

Key points about anionic PAM flocculant:

Function:

It acts by bridging between particles in a liquid, causing them to aggregate into larger "flocs" which can then be easily removed through sedimentation or filtration.

Chemical structure:

Polyacrylamide is a long chain polymer made up of repeating acrylamide units, and the "anionic" part means that it has negatively charged functional groups attached to the chain, allowing it to attract positively charged particles in the solution.

Applications:

  1. Water treatment: Removing suspended solids from wastewater, clarifying drinking water, sludge dewatering
  2. Paper production: Improving drainage and retention of fibers during papermaking
  3. Mining industry: Settling solids in mineral processing
  4. Textile industry: Clarifying wastewater

Cationic polyacrylamide (PAM) is a water-soluble polymer that's used as a flocculant to improve solid-liquid separation. It's a high molecular weight electrolyte with a strong positive charge that's effective at low dosages. PAM is used in many industries, including:

  • Water treatment: PAM is used to flocculate and coagulate suspended solids in water and wastewater. It can improve the clarity of supernatants, increase filtration rates, and produce drier sludge cakes.
  • Paper making: PAM is used as a paper enhancer.
  • Oil and gas: PAM is used in oilfield chemicals, such as thickeners for oil field acidification and clay anti-expansion agents.
  • Mining: PAM is used in mining.
  • Metallurgy: PAM is used in metallurgy.
Here are some other properties of PAM:

  1. It's colorless, flavorless, and non-corrosive.
  2. It's easily soluble in water, but not in some organic solvents like acetone and ethanol.
  3. It's inexpensive to use.
  4. It absorbs damp easily.
  5. PAM works by forming hydrogen bonds with suspension particles, which thickens and enlarges the flocculation structure. This accelerates the sedimentation of particles, which speeds up the clarification of the solution and promotes filtration.
